“Three, two, one, and we have lift off!” claps were shared all around the control centre as they watched the silver rocket take off into the sky. Andrew Feist checked the settings to see if everything was in order, his three other companions on the rocket were awaiting orders. Andrew noticed that on the centre of the rocket five screws were loose, he ran towards them trying to work out how to put them back in their place. Andrew felt a strong blast of wind as the screw shot out and the whole rocket split open into two parts, one side was in space but the side where his companions were went plummeting into the ground, and in the corner of his eye he saw his friend reaching for him. Some of the gas that had been ignited wafted around Andrew and that’s when he realised he was hanging motionless right in the centre of the ozone layer, then the ignited gas turned light blue from the ozone layer cleansing it, in a single moment all that energy shot into Andrew leaving him unconscious as he fell to his death, but something miraculous happened, a blue force field shot out of him stopping his fall and lowering him down to the ground.

Andrew woke up on the sandy ground wondering how he was alive, all he could remember was the rocket crashing, then blank. Andrew walked for a few hours until he reached a nearby village on the outskirts of London, he decided this would be where he would stay for a while. Andrew walked to a cheap looking hotel and pulled out his wallet which he had conveniently left in his pocket but before he could reach the hotel a hooded figure snatched his wallet and began to run. Andrew ran after the man with his grey hooded jumper, tracksuit and gloves but Andrew couldn’t help but feel a strange aura in the air. As Andrew quickly took over man his eyes widened as he saw the man’s face, if you could call it a face. It was a black mess with tiny gleaming dots in odd faces just like stars. Without knowing a blue spherical force field went around Andrew knocking the thing to the ground in surprise, Andrew looked at the barrier around him in shock, he leant out to touch it, as he did it stretched outwards but he had seen how strong it was on the outside so maybe he had some control over it. The thing got up and held his hands up. “How are you doing that?”

“To be honest...i have no idea...” replied Andrew still amazed by the barrier. “You are not worth killing” the thing said in its robotic voice. The barrier disappeared as the thing threw Andrews wallet back to him “I’m sorry about that...i get hungry” Andrew raised a quizzical eyebrow “what do you mean?” the thing looked from side to side “you wouldn’t understand” Andrew laughed “I just found out I can create a force field around me so try me” the man looked from side to side again and unzipped his jumper and took off the gloves and tracksuit to reveal his emptiness, it was space but in a human form. Andrew walked towards him and stuck his hand right into it, definitely space! He was amazed. “Wow...that’s amazing” the space like creature looked surprised at the reaction “you...you’re not scared of me? Not disgusted?” Andrew smiled “hell no! I think it’s really cool!” Andrew couldn’t tell but he thought that the thing was smiling. “You can call me insomnia...you wouldn’t be looking for something to do would you?”Andrew looked confused “what do you mean?”Insomnia looked at Andrew “I didn’t always look like this, I used to be human, you see I was a scientist, striving in the study of space and portals and I needed to see it for myself, so I went on an expedition into space, but when I went out attached to the rocket it snapped and I was pulled into the black hole, but I came out like this.” Andrew has no time to interrupt as he saw a man run out with a bag of money. “Stop him! He’s a thief!” yelled the hotel owner. Andrew and Insomnia ran in the direction of the man with the money, Andrew managed to form his barrier into his hand, and then into the shape of a spear made completely out of his energy. The man turned and took two shots at Andrew but his grin said it all. The barrier had stopped the bullets in midair and redirected them into the man’s legs so he wouldn’t die but he certainly wouldn’t get away. Andrew turned to Insomnia who had regained his eyes, and then it hit Andrew the more justice there is, the more human Insomnia becomes. After returning the money the hotel owner insisted that they both stay for a while which saved Andrew a lot of money. Insomnia sat on the balcony as he told Andrew that he didn’t need sleep to live.

As Insomnia went into the room at midnight he saw all of Andrews’s scientific calculations. “I’ve come to a conclusion that if we manage to stop all crime around the world for exactly one minute then you would be human!”Insomnia smiled at the thought of being human again.
